RE: [DeTomaso] One seriously fast Pantera

Carapi did get the Swedish record one or two years later with 199 mph (319
km/h). No new record attempt has been made after this and now is the road
changed so they can't use it anymore. It was a public road that was shut
down back and forth during the attempts with all aid from local authorities!

Carapi did also win another contest, the Fastest Car in Sweden, no more than
five (!) times. This was more of a drag contest with a rolling start (first
or second gear through a turn and then full throttle for 1/4 mile). His
highest speed I think was 242 km/h. Not bad on the quarter mile! :-)

His engine is a KB block with Chevy crank and a Holley. Very well tuned.
Nothing fancy. Just cubic inches.

His gearing is changed and Butfoy has helped him. But it is a normal gearbox
and it has never failed.

The car is now owned by Kjell Holgersson who is weekend racing driver. Bjorn
Carapi is the original builder and is a helping hand in this project. The
will both do record attempts in different classes. The first goal is to
reach 200 mph. No other Swede has made that before at Bonneville.

The engine is being overhauled. A hot cam is selected and a new intake. NOS
is installed too and will be used if needed. The car will run in two classes
(with and without alcohol). The car will be tested in Sweden and then
shipped to US around midsummer. Carapi and Kjell will leave just a few days
before the race week 16-22 August.

The environment at Bonneville is very different compared to anything else in
Sweden so experience is vital. They will stay with guy called Greg Moore (I
think) that has/had the record in these classes so his experience will be
very welcome.

They Swedish media coverage will be big. Two journalists for a big Swedish
auto magazines called Teknikens Varld will join them during the record
attempt and other magazines will cover.

Nota Bene:
They do have room left for some sponsors!
DeTomaso connected or other.
Drope me a line and I will connect you.
